Donald D. Cornell, 79, of Decatur, passed away September 27, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday, October 5, 2020 at First Christian Church, Decatur. All CDC guidelines will be followed. Masks will be required and attendance will be limited to 100 people in the space due to state and local guidelines regarding social distance. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Don was born August 11, 1941 in Decatur, the son of Walter and Mildred (Force) Cornell. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. After returning from the Air Force, he worked as a sales clerk for Soy City Electric for over 40 years. Don enjoyed sailing. He belonged to the Commodore Stephen Decatur Yacht Club. He loved to canoe and belonged to a canoe club, as well. He loved nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed camping. He was an avid member of the NRA and American Legion Post 105. He is survived by his children, Megan, Joshua, Molly (Chris), and Amber; daughter-in-law, Arica; significant other of 20 years, Luz; grandchildren, Kaley, Payton, Karmynn, and Carter; brothers, Jack, Stanley, and Herb (Jan) Cornell; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Zachary; and sister, Joan McGeehon.
