Don Olsen

Don Eric Olsen, 85, of Decatur, IL passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Decatur with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Don was born on August 7, 1930 in Lincoln, IL the son of William L., Sr. and Amelia (Kuchiensky) Olsen. He married Donna Jones on August 31, 1958 in Lincoln, IL and she survives. Don proudly served as a jet pilot for the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a teacher at Mt. Pulaski High School and then taught at Stephen Decatur High School for 32 years, retiring in 1991. Don had earned his Master’s Degree, and enjoyed sports, playing and coaching tennis. Don was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Decatur. Don is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Jill Olsen of Decatur, IL and her friend Joyce, several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Memorials may be made to the Cross Fund at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or donor’s choice. "
