Dolores Schroeder

December 8, 1927 — March 25, 2012

Dolores (Dee, Dodie) Yvonne (Rousey, Taylor) Schroeder died Sunday, March 25, 2012. Per Delores's request, there will be no visitation or services. Her wishes of cremation rites will be accorded. There will be a private farewell for the immediate family. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter and Homeward Bound, as Dee loved animals. Delores (Dee, Dodie) Yvonne Rousey was born in a house in Clinton, IL on December 8, 1927, to Raymond and Evelyn (Miller) Rousey Sr. Her parents divorced when she was very young. Delores went with her father, while her brother Raymond Jr. went with her mother. Raymond Rousey Sr. married Flo Ella Wheat of Clinton when Delores was very young. One day, Dodie asked her new stepmother if she could call her "mudja" cause she didn't have a "mudja". Flo Ella took Dodie under her wing that day, and from then on, they were family. Raymond and Flo Ella later divorced, and Delores stayed and was raised by Flo Ella, "her Mother". Delores married Gail K. Taylor in Clinton on June 25, 1950, and eventually moved to Decatur, IL. She later married Leslie L. Schroeder on June 28, 1974 in Decatur, IL. Gail preceded Delores in death on January 16, 1996. Leslie preceded Delores in death on January 26, 2007. Dee was very fortunate to experience several job opportunities. She worked at Sears, where the old library was (now ADM) on the corner of North & Franklin. She also worked on the assembly line for GE, was also a nurses aide and later, a floor receptionist for both Decatur Macon County Hospital (DMH) and St. Mary's Hospital, a dental assistant for both of the senior Dr. Jergens, cook, and later owning her own Café on Edward and Grand called Dee's Café. One time the city workers were putting in a new sidewalk in front of her café. Dee had a little square plot of ground in the corner, in front and told the guys to leave her flowers growing. She ran out there with an empty shot gun and told the guys to leave her flowers alone! It's a good thing the guys knew her and knew she was just kidding with them! Dee had also been a school bus driver for the mentally and physically impaired. Dee's last job was at MacArthur High School, then Eisenhower High School for Aramark which lasted over 22 years. Over the years at EHS, she had been a cook, line server, and took care of the salad bar. Dee spoiled the teachers on the salad line, knowing what they liked and didn't like. She worked at EHS until she could no longer physically do the job. She missed the girls at EHS and would visit them once in a while. She really missed her job at EHS, and it broke her heart knowing she couldn't go back to work! Dee loved to camp. When she owned her café, she would get up at 3 am in Shelbyville, head to Decatur to open the café, close the café and head back to the camp grounds in Shelbyville, only to do it again and again! After selling her café, she had more time to go camping, often taking her grandchildren with her and Les. Dee loved to fish, often catching the best ones (the prettiest rocks around), and putting them in her tackle box. Dee also loved her Beagles very much. They were her babies. They were Miss Heidi the 13th, Molly Sue, and Lucinda Lady. They preceded her in death. After Lady died, Mom was so heartbroken and lonely, but she knew she couldn't handle a dog anymore. I had always had cats, but Mom never had to deal with them. Mom thought she would try a cat for a change. Mom and I went to Homeward Bound and found a cat just for her. The cat already had all 4 paws declawed, was spayed, was 2 years old, and was as light as a little kitty. Was it ever a new experience for her! Cali got into everything and on top of everything. Cali soon showed us who ruled the roost! We called her Miss Priss! Later on, a black & white kitty showed up at Moms house and stayed on the porch. She adopted Mom, and eventually won her way into the house! We named her Bootsy. She was a little spit fire compared to Cali! Dee is survived by her children, Linda Coon of Toledo, OH. Gail K. Taylor Jr of Dallas, TX. Kathy Taylor and Jodie Coventry of Decatur, IL. Dee is also survived by her grandchildren, Tanya Flowers, Crystal Brown, and Jennifer Coventry, all of Decatur, IL. Michelle Coon of Highland, IN. Ric Coon of Fresno, CA. Jamie (Lonnie) Brown of Mo. Rosemary (Shawn) Carson of Duncanvile, TX. Amanda Taylor and her children of GA. Great-grandchildren, Cassidee Key-Flowers, Bryson Flowers, Abbigail Flowers, and Taryn Baker, all of Decatur, IL. Jazmine Cramer of MO. Derrick Carson of Duncanville, TX. Nathan Nunez and Seth Leon of Highland, IN. Dee also leaves her nephew, Skip Perryman of Decatur, IL, and his family. Niece, Jane Grinder of Springfield, IL. Nieces, Rosemarie Fulgham and Sarah Jane Russell of Clinton, IL and their families. Daughter-in-law Barbara Kalley of Duncanville, TX. Grandson-in-law, David Flowers of Decatur, IL. Brother-in-laws, Robert Thoms of Maroa, IL, and Virgil (Bud) Schroeder of FL. Dee is also survived by her aunt, Annabelle (Miller) (Billy) Shields of Clinton, IL. Her "special Aunt" Helen (Bill) High and their two daughters. Her "coffee buddy", Larry Tarter of Decatur, IL. And last, but not least, Dee's lifelong friend, Katie Crosby of Olney, IL. Dee is the last of the original Rousey name left in this area. The Rousey clan are originally from Kentucky. Dee's husbands, bio mother, father, brother, Aunt Nova (Rousey) Hubble of Maroa, IL, and "mudja mother" Flo Ella preceded her in death. Many thanks to Jane for always sending cards to mom and keeping her up to date on family news. She enjoyed those cards and looked forward to them. Also, many thanks to Dr. Kola and Dr. D. Patel for helping us have mom a little longer. Dee will be truly missed, as she was the "love" of our family. "
