Diane M. Reed, 64, of Forsyth, IL, died 11:59 p.m., June 19, 2014, at her residence, with her husband and family at her side.. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Central Christian Church, Decatur, IL, with Rev. Michael Karunas officiating. Visitation 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 23, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, Decatur, IL., or 1st Christian Church, Naples, FL. Diane was born September 10, 1949 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the daughter of William Burton and Geraldine (Irvin) Cook. She married Robert E. Reed on November 25, 1971 in Dahlgren, IL. Diane received her B.S. degree in 1971 from S.I.U. in Carbondale, IL. She was a Business Education teacher at St. Teresa High School in Decatur from 1972 - 1974. She then worked for Caterpillar Inc. from 1974 - 2005, beginning as a clerk in inventory control and purchasing, and she retired as a Materials Engineer. After retirement, Diane became a substitute teacher for the Decatur Public Schools, District #61 from 2005 to 2011. In 1996, she received her Master's degree from Eastern Illinois University. Diane was a long time member of Central Christian Church, where she was an Usher, Deacon, a member of the Book Club, Dorcas group, Christ Care Stitchers, and the Womens' Ministry Group, and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Dahlgren, IL for several decades. During the winter, she vacationed at Riviera Colony in Naples, FL, where she attended 1st Christian Church and was a member of the church's Care Team. She enjoyed spending summers vacationing in Door County, WI. She was also a member of Macon County Association for Illinois Home and Community Education. Diane especially enjoyed times with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 42 years: Robert E., of Forsyth, IL; daughter: Elizabeth D. (Stuart) Strate of Forsyth, IL; son: Justin R. (Jamie) Reed of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Tyler Strate and Emmett Reed, and the family shih-tzu dog: Luigi. She was preceded in death by her parents. Diane's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to: Dr. Wade and the staff of Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, the staff of DMH Palliative/Hospice Care, the Hickory Point Christian Village staff, and dear friends: Suzi and Moose Brackett, and Bill and Joyce Hawks for their care and concern for Diane during her illness.
