Dewey Gosnell

Dewey Gosnell, 90, of Decatur, formerly of Dalton City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family December 7, 2020 at Lincolnshire Place. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Mt. Zion Township Cemetery with Military Rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials in Dewey’s honor may be made to the Activity Fund at Lincolnshire Place, 1215 Arbor Drive, Decatur, IL 62526. Dewey was born February 24, 1930 in Decatur, the son of Floyd and Lois (Trimble) Gosnell. He married Mary Meny on December 19, 1953 in Mt. Zion. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2018. Dewey proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal and received our country’s highest honor by earning a Purple Heart. Dewey worked for A.E. Staley for 40 years, retiring as Superintendent of Utilities in 1989. Dewey and Mary loved traveling and especially enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Wisconsin. He is survived by his daughter, Tamara Lynn (Dennis) Boeker of Springield; grandchildren, Rachael (Ben) Austin of Decatur and Matthew (Whitney) Gideon of Springfield, OH; great-grandson, Judah Austin; siblings, Irene Clow of Florida, Delores (Lee) Wendel of Mt. Zion, Oliver “Oz” (Judy) Gosnell of Saybrook, and Linda Smith of North Carolina. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 65 years, Mary Gosnell; brother, Woodrow “Woody” Gosnell; brother-in-law, Dick Clow; and sister-in-law, Ginny Gosnell. Dewey's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Lincolnshire Place. Your loving care of Dewey was always noted and deeply appreciated. "
