Delores (Dee) Penn, 93, of Decatur, IL, passed away on December 26th, 2015 in Heritage Health Mt. Zion, Illinois.Visitation will be on Tuesday (12-29-2015) from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. with a service at 7:00 P.M.. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday (12-30-2015) at Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Decatur Public Library, the DMH Thrift Store, or donors choice. Delores was born July 16, 1922 in Kenney, Illinois, the daughter of Carl Irwin and Edna Margie (Crosby) Maxey. She married Merle Penn in Decatur, IL. on October 18, 1946. He passed away on March, 17, 1991. She was a devoted wife, and mother, raising three sons and also welcoming her two step children into their home. She was a housewife while her sons were young, and her family enjoyed her delicious meals almost every night, especially her homemade chicken and noodles. While a homemaker, she also kept the accounting books for her husband's homebuilding business. After her children grew older she began working outside of the home, and at St. Mary's Hospital she became one of the first certified EKG technicians in the area. She also worked as the secretary for the Adult Continuation Center, and at Decatur Public Schools. During retirement, Dee was a volunteer at the Thrift Shop, kept the accounts for her investment club, and loved to bowl, golf, and travel, especially to Las Vegas. She is survived by her sons Dale (KP), Dave, and Steve, brothers Harold (Naomi), Bob (Joan), and Duane Maxey, sisters Wanda Good, Iona O'Neill, and Hazel Donaldson, grandchildren Jesse Penn and Britta Young (Kevin), great grandchildren Emma and Kevin Thomas Young, and step grandchildren, Dave and Doug Luster. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband , stepson Ronnie Penn, stepdaughter Janet Luster, sister Marjory, and brother Carl.She was loved and respected, and will be missed. The family would like to say thanks to the staff of Heritage Health in Mt. Zion for their care, concern, and sense of humor, and especially to Erica, Angela, and Cathy. "
