David Holt

On October 8th, 2018, David Richard Holt, of Atwood, IL, met his precious Lord face to face as he passed from this earth while surrounded by his beloved family. Dave was born at home on December 1st, 1935, to Louis and Ruth Cox Holt. In the early 1950’s, Dave served as a United States Marine, and did a tour in Korea. While in the service, Dave began to receive letters from a beautiful girl from Bement, Illinois. That beautiful girl, Barbara Marshall, would become his wife on a snow covered November 25th, 1955, at Voorhies Chapel in Voorhies, IL. This year would have marked their 63rd wedding anniversary. In the days following their wedding, Dave returned to his Marine service in California. Barb stayed with Dave's parents in Colorado until she could join him in California. After Dave was discharged from the Marines, the couple settled in Central Illinois. Together, Dave and Barb raised four children, Donna, David Charles (Debbie), Larry (Kathy), and Jason (Nichole), resulting in six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved and enjoyed dearly. They were his greatest joy in life. Dave was the owner/operator of Holt Welding and Construction. Whether it was the construction of a large building or a small repair to keep a farmer going in the field, Dave will be remembered throughout central Illinois for doing his work with excellence and integrity. Dave was a man who worked hard and taught his children to do the same. Dave also loved the Lord and enjoyed reading his Bible every day. He shared his love of the Lord often. If you ever asked Dave how he was doing, the answer was always, “blessed!” A graveside service to celebrate the life of David Holt will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 11am at the Bement Township Cemetery. Friends and family are encouraged to attend. As it will be a graveside service, the family asks that there be no flowers. Instead, donations to Dave's favorite charity, The Northeast Community Fund in Decatur, IL will be appreciated.
