David J. Gant, Sr., 82, of Forsyth, IL, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 3465 N. MacArthur Rd, Decatur. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Memorials may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ Elevator Fund. David was born April 23, 1936, in Decatur, IL. He married Marlene Rutledge March 10, 1956, in Springfield, IL. David was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. David retired from Caterpillar in 1994, working as an engineer, and was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club. He and his sons built many homes together throughout the area. David was an avid golfer and loved working in his flower garden. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marlene of Forsyth; sons: David J. Gant, Jr. of Mt. Zion, IL and Donald E. Gant of Sun City, FL; grandchildren: Heather J. (Jason) Martin of Mt. Zion, IL, David J. Gant III of Lafayette, IN, and Dylan J. Gant of Mt. Zion, IL; great-grandchildren: Cara, Jalynn, Dallas, and Deegan. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers, Jerry and Larry.
