CUSTOM DEATH NOTICEDave Dale Scherer, 64, of Decatur, departed this life to enter his eternal life on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 9, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with visitation from 9:00 until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dave Dale Scherer Fund.Mr. Scherer was born December 13, 1943, in Decatur, the son of Carl and Elizabeth (McCool) Scherer. He married Debbie Oye-Gogerty May 30, 1987, in Decatur. Mr. Scherer was an electrician for 38 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, I.B.E.W. #146, and American Legion #105. He loved fishing, and was an avid Cardinal fan. Dave was well known throughout Decatur for the past 45 years for his various bands. He wrote Sloop Quin Penguin in the early 60's which was sold to the McCoys and renamed Hang on Sloopy.Mr. Scherer is survived by his wife Debbie of Decatur; daughters: Caprice Light and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL, and Chantel Scherer-Reid and husband Gregor of London, England; step son Sean Gogerty of Decatur; granddaughter Lacie Light of Jacksonville, FL; brothers: William Ferral of Fall Brook, CA, and Perry Ferral of Hendersonville, TN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marsha and David Hohenstein of St. Charles, MO; his beloved dogs: Bouncer and Toby.He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ken and Norma Oye.The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Goetter and all the staff on 4100 (D.M.H.) for all of their help, support, and kindness.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
