Darrell D Coon, Sr., formerly of Decatur, IL., passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017, surrounded by family in Englewood, Florida.Darrell was born on September 3, 1933, to Wilbur M. Coon, Sr. and Bernice (Braden) Coon.After graduating from Decatur High in 1953, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force where he received the National Defense Service Medal.Darrell married Patricia Newberry on June 11, 1955, Joyce Wilson, December 17, 1983 and remarried Patricia on April 28, 2012. Joyce preceded him in death on December 7, 2010; Patricia preceded him in death on June 23, 2015.For 38 years, he was employed by the Norfolk and Southern Railroad as a Brakeman/Conductor. After his retirement, he worked at the Decatur Country Club and as a parking lot attendant for the Decatur Civic Center. Darrell was a dedicated St. Louis Cardinal fan, Walmart enthusiast and a “Grumpy” apparel aficionado. When parched, only a Pepsi would do.Darrell was a member of the Stephen Decatur Lodge, a Master Mason for over 50 years. He was a former member of the Ansar Shrine Oriental Band, member of the American Legion, former member of South Shores United Methodist Church and was involved with South Pointe Church.He is survived by his children: Cathy Anderson (Rick), Darrell Jr., Debbie Tyson-Dubois, Douglas (Michelle), and Daniel (Angie). Stepchildren: Bob Wilson, Cathy Mottin, Diana Peters (Dave), Patty Mason (Bary) and Ricky Wilson (Janice)He was blessed with 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one due in October. Services to celebrate Darrell’s life will be held at 12:00 pm at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home on Saturday, June 24, 2017. A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home with Masonic rites following the visitation. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.Darrell’s strong love of family and friends will be missed by all who knew him. "
