Dan Hill Brintlinger, 80, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026.
Visitation will be 1:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Prayer service will be 3:30 PM, Sunday at the funeral home with Fr. Rick Weltin officiating. Funeral service will be 12:00 PM, Monday, February 2, 2026 at the funeral home with Pastor Wray Offermann officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Decatur, with military honors by the US Air Force and Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials in Dan’s honor may be made to the Decatur Corps of the Salvation Army.
Dan was born September 14, 1945 in Decatur the son of Harold Brown and Anna Pearl (Hill) Brintlinger. He married Nedra (Stout) on April 12, 1995.
He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force, stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, FL. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1967 and earned his mortuary degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1968. He then joined the family business - Brintlinger’s Funeral Home where he later became President and helped lead the funeral home until his retirement. Dan was passionate about funeral service and was a member of National Funeral Directors Association, Illinois Funeral Directors Association, and was a board member for Order of the Golden Rule. He served in leadership roles with the Decatur Chamber of Commerce and Decatur Elks Club.
Dan was a Decatur legend and knew Decatur history and lore. He enjoyed antique professional cars and fire apparatus and owned many professional cars, ambulances and fire trucks. Dan served as a volunteer photographer for the Decatur Fire Department for nearly 20 years. He was a member of the Professional Car Society and Society for Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America. Dan served on the Advisory Board for the Decatur Corps of the Salvation Army, was a member of the Country Club of Decatur Club and a Life Member of the Air Force Association. Dan was also a life member of the Republican National Committee
Dan will be remembered for his outstanding service to the Decatur community, his kindness to all he encountered and for always being ready with a joke.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Nedra Brintlinger; sons: Dr. Todd and wife, Dr. Stephanie Getty-Brintlinger of Washington, DC and Kirk and wife, Megan Brintlinger of Dunlap, IL; stepson, James and wife, Jackie Duies of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren: Audrey Elise Brintlinger, Spencer Todd Brintlinger, Madilyn Benton Swearingen, and Austin Benton Brintlinger.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
