Dale K. Jones, 87, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024.
Dale was born November 30, 1937, in Carbondale, Illinois, the son of Gordon and Helen (McMinn) Jones. For 56 years, he was married to Elizabeth Goeddel until her passing. After which, he found love again with his wife Phyllis McPherron, who stayed by his side until his own passing.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Illinois Medicine at Chicago and serving 2 years in the United States Air Force Medical Corp; Dale followed his passion for medicine by becoming a family physician for the Decatur Area, which he served for 40 years. Upon his retirement, he served as the medical director for the plasma center for 9 years. In his life, Dale also served a term as the Chief of Staff for St. Mary’s Hospital, President of the Decatur Medical Society, and served on the Millikin Trust Board.
Dale loved tennis, travelling, skiing, cheering on his favorite sports teams, having coffee with his men’s group, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He often volunteered at Chic, Planned Parenthood, and Good Samaritan Inn; making an example of the mantra he lived his life by: “Your actions speak louder than your words.”
Dale is survived by his wife Phyllis McPherron; brother, H. Dean Jones MD (Carol); son, Steve (Kathleen) Jones; daughters, Sheri (Shawn) McManus, Shelli (Tom) Braun; grandchildren, Michael, Mary, Ryan (Rachael), Alex; and his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his first wife, Elizabeth, and his parents.
