Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Mitch Flesch at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 28, and one hour prior to services on Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Decatur, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.Dale was born on April 14, 1921, in Monticello, IL, the son of Reent Johnson and Stella Octavia (James) Ahlrich. He married Elizabeth Eloise Blankenship on February 18, 1943, in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2005.Dale was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving under General Dwight D. Eisenhower and communicated with General Eisenhower on a daily basis. After his discharge, he worked for J.C. Penney as a stock manager, retiring after 38 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Southern Baptist Church, Decatur, IL, serving there as a Deacon for 50 years and teaching Sunday School for many years.Dale was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who loved his family greatly and valued his time spent with them.Surviving are his children Dale E. Ahlrich and wife Cathy of Decatur, IL, Larry F. Ahlrich and wife Janet of Whitsett, N.C., and Sharon E. Whitten and husband Stanley of Forsyth, IL. Also surviving are grandchildren Marjorie Woods and husband Rory, Mark Ahlrich, Jeremy Ahlrich and wife Cathy, Erin Millspaugh and husband David, Brad Whitten and wife Debbie, Jennifer Hardin and husband Robb, Ryan Whitten and wife Cortney, David Whitten and wife Laura; and 14 great grandchildren.Dale was preceded in death by his parents, son David Lynn, and wife Elizabeth Eloise.Memorials may be made to Calvary Southern Baptist Church, Decatur, IL.The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at McKinley Court who lovingly cared for him.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
