Clyde Edward Winters, 81, of Decatur, left this world to begin his new life in Heaven with Jesus at 4:34 P.M. on Monday, July 28, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Friday, August 1, 2014, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to Homeward Bound. Clyde was born August 24, 1932, in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of Rudolph and Rose Winters. He was a graduate of Mattoon High School and attended Eastern Illinois University. Clyde proudly served his country in the Navy on the USS Kearsarge during the Korean War. He was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1987. Clyde married his best friend, Sally J. Barnell Chaney, on November 24, 1967, in Springfield, Illinois. Clyde is survived by his wife; daughters Lisa Winters, Sara (Donnie) Richardson, Kelly (Roger) Hall, Sherry Callahan; son, Marc Winters; grandchildren Emily (Jake) Manzella, Rachael Richardson, Matt Richardson, Caleb Hall, Emma Hall, Jeana Sherry, John Winters; and his faithful walking companion, Charlie. Clyde is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and his brother. We sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, and staff in the ICU at St. John's Hospital for their dedication and compassion. Our Daddy was the best Daddy in the whole world. He will be forever missed as a devoted husband, father, Papaw, and true friend. "
