Clyde L. Wells, 86, of Oakley, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday at the Cerro Gordo Funeral Home. Burial will be in West Frantz Cemetery, Oakley. In honor of Clyde’s love for the Cubs, his family requests that everyone wear their Cubs’ apparel.
Clyde was born April 29, 1939 in Martinsville, IL, the son of Hartsel and Mae (Bennett) Wells. He married Shirley (Handley) Wells and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2024. Clyde worked for many years in construction, driving a truck for Fombell Trucking and Schnieder National, and then worked racing horses all around the country. He was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Surviving are his daughters, Cathy (David) Hardesty of Decatur and Carla Wells of Oakley; grandchildren: John Wells, James Wells, Shana (Matt) Hunsaker, Sarah Wells, Cydney Manns, and Zaydyn Wells; sisters: Norma Howlett, Linda (Ronnie) Kelsheimer, Marcy (Larry) Farrell; brother, Ronnie Wells; and many nieces and nephews.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; sons, Bradley and Eric Wells; grandson, Michael; brothers: Gene, Orville, and Doyt; and sisters, Betty, Rosie and Sharon.
Clyde’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the present and past staff of Piatt County Nursing Home for the skilled and loving care they provided for him.
