Clifton Pogue

Clifton Pogue, 90, of Decatur, was delivered into the loving hands of God at 10:35 A.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown.In lieu of flowers and honoring Clifton’s wishes, memorials will be accepted for the family.Mr. Pogue was born November 25, 1926, in Ennis, Kentucky. The son of Mary and Taylor Pogue, he was the last surviving of ten children. On May 9, 1950 Clifton married Nelda Doris Arrendell. They were married more than 66 years. He was proud to have served his country in the Army at the end of WWII. Mr. Pogue worked for 35 years before retiring from Caterpillar in 1982. For many years, his hobbies of restoring antique cars and fixing just about anything brought him great pleasure. In his later years he enjoyed woodworking, reading, and especially spending time with family. From his childhood to his death, he was a hard worker with a gentle soul and a kind heart. Papa will be missed!Surviving are his wife Nelda; his son Steven (Christine) of Decatur; his daughter Kelly Palmer of Foley, AL; his granddaughters Ann Keefer Pogue and Betsy Turner (Chris), both of Decatur; and his only great-grandchild Christian Tide Turner (Little Britches).He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and one sister.The family would like to thank DMH fifth floor staff that was in charge of Clifton’s care.
