Cletus Damery

Cleatus Gemmer Damery, 94, of Decatur, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 7, at Grace United Methodist Church Decatur, IL. with visitation one hour prior to service time. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or DMH Hospice. Cleatus was born October 19, 1922, in Blue Mound, the son of Harry and Helen (Gemmer) Damery. He married Ina L. Tadlock October 18, 1942, in Blue Mound. Along with his wife Ina, his greatest love in life was farming. Cleatus owned, trained, and raced horses for harness racing. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, he loved ballroom dancing and loved to bowl. Cleatus was also a member of Golden K. Kiwannis, Blue Mound Masonic Lodge #682 A.F. & A.M., and Niantic Civic Club. He was also quite active in the Macon County Farm Bureau and served as Township Chairman. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Ina of Decatur; daughters, Gay L. Scherer and husband Jerry of Tulsa, OK, and Cinda C. Divjak and husband David of Ballwin, MO; brother, Darrell Damery of Blue Mound; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Cleatus was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Juanita, and one great granddaughter.
