Clara E. Barr, 92, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 10, 2024 at First Church of the Nazarene, Decatur. Visitation will be 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials in Clara’s honor may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 1177 W. Hickory Point Road, Decatur, IL 62526. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur is assisting the family with arrangements.
Clara was born October 7, 1931 in Decatur, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Kollock) Luka. She married Elmer Max Barr on October 30, 1955 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2014. Clara spent her career working both at A.E. Staley, and as the Office Manager at Decatur First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed gardening and loved working on her computer and making family calendars. Clara was a longtime member of Decatur First Church of the Nazarene where she was active singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, leading Bible studies and taking part in the Shoebox ministry. Clara’s most prized role was that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her children and their families: daughter, Carol (Gordon) Karker of Peachtree City, GA, and their children: Kristin (Josh) Stevens and Geoff (Malley) Karker; son, Don (Susan) Barr of Falmouth, ME and their children: Brandon (Nickole) Barr, Brad (Lisa) Barr, and Bryant (Brittany) Barr; and daughter, Jan (Bob) Dowell of Springfield, IL and their children: Megan (Davor) Dowell Mondom and Ryan Dowell. Clara is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and her siblings: Mary (George) Marzinzik of Springfield, Janet (Gay) Rolofson of Decatur, and Henry Luka of Louisville, KY.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Barr; 3 sisters; and 3 brothers.
