Chris George Greanias, born March 27, 1925, of Decatur, passed away February 13, 2015 at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, IL. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Ellen S. Greanias, his daughter Thanea, son-in-law Mark, his grandchildren Katrina and Alex, as well as many beloved relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Georgia, his son George, his brothers Gus, Nick, Jim, Basil, and his sister Amanda, sister-in-laws Maryann, and Vera, brother-in-law John, cousins Gus T., Mary, John N., Katy J., niece Vicky, and nephews Nick, Greg, and Chris J. Chris was a lifelong resident of Decatur. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1943. During his youth, he was an active member of church youth groups and council. He enlisted in the Navy and was sent to Fort Schuyler, New York, where he received his commission July 3, 1944. His tour of duty included anti-sub training in Miami, Florida. Following the war, Chris attended Notre Dame University and the University of Illinois. After graduating with a degree in Aeronautical engineering from the U of I, he moved to Seattle for a short time to work for Boeing. Upon his return to Decatur, Chris met his wife, Ellen, who, he knew he would marry the moment they met. They married in 1953, started a family and made their life in Decatur. He worked for A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. as a project engineer until retirement. Since then he has spent time enjoying his grandchildren, and family. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 PM at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home on North Oakland Street with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Friday, 10 AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on North Union Street. Interment to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 570 N. Union, Decatur, IL, in his name. "
