Charles Averitt Secrest, 93, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Niantic, IL, passed away at 6:35 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2008, at Oak Terrace Healthcare, Springfield, IL.Private family services will be held at a later date in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is in charge of arrangements.Charles was born on November 1, 1914, in Niantic, IL, the son of Charles and Margaret (Brown) Secrest. He married Eleanor Irene Andrews in 1936, in Decatur. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2003.Charles was a carpenter for Boone and Waddell, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Niantic Christian Church.Surviving are his granddaughters Rita Williams and husband Jerry of Springfield, IL, and Dawn Holmes and husband Wendell of Riverton, IL. Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, stepbrother Richard (Mildred) Eckhart of Niantic, IL, and several nieces and nephews.Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son A. Barry Secrest, one brother, and two sisters. "
