Charles Newgard

Visitation will be held Friday, February 15, from 5 to 8 P.M. at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, at 11:00 A.M., at First Lutheran Church, 250 West Decatur Street, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 1:30 P.M. Water Street - Decatur, Illinois 62523.Charles Hansen Newgard was born in Parkersburg, Iowa on September 13, 1952, the son of Robert and Virginia (Hansen) Newgard. Chuck graduated from New Hartford High School, New Hartford, Iowa and Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa. He married Lola Nelson on June 14, 1975 in McCallsburg, Iowa. Chuck and Lola have three children: Eric, Alison, and Kyle.In 1974 he began work for ADM Cornsweetners in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was transferred to the Decatur ADM Plant in 1979 and worked as a chemist and a supervisor in the quality control lab. Chuck was an extraordinary employee, always working long hours and going to work extra to help with problems during the nights, weekends, and holidays. Although not on call, he had been called to help with a problem at ADM on the evening of his death.He was a member of First Lutheran Church, was an active adult in Boy Scout Troop 202, was involved with the Decatur Sister City program, was a dedicated and loving husband and father, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiiing, and spending time with his family and friends.He is survived by his wife, Lola; son, Eric Charles Newgard of Lincoln, NE; daughter Alison Lee Newgard of Chicago, IL; and son, Kyle Alan Newgard, at home. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Newgard, sister Kathy (Scott) Cessna, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and brother, Jim Newgard of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his mother and father in-law, Raymond and Opal Nelson of St. Anthony, IA; brother and sister in-laws, Loyd (Diane) Nelson of Marshalltown, IA; Rita (Daryl) Dudley of Columbia, MO; Ruth (Doug) Halvorsen of New Providence, IA; and 10 nieces and nephews: Lorraine (Ryan) Hatkawski, Christine Newgard, Matt and Kim Cessna, Bryce, Amber, and Breanne Nelson, and Brett, Bart, and Betsey Halvorsen.Chuck was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.The Newgard family extends their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Jeff Miller, who died with Chuck.
