Charles Edward “Red” Mardis, 68, of Decatur, IL, passed away 6:52 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016, at his residence.Family and friends will receive callers at the family home at 1050 N. Summit, from 6 to 8 p.m, on Friday, September 2, 2016. Private inurnment will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, at Sumner, Illinois City Cemetery. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with arrangements.Memorials may be made to Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois or Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice.Charles was born June 8, 1948 in Keiser, AR, the son of Henry and Ellen (Hayes) Mardis. He married Elizabeth Matilda Abell on January 28, 1984 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death in 2014.Charles worked most recently as a courier for Decatur BluePrint Company and formerly for the City of Decatur. He was a “Jack of all Trades”, enjoyed working with wood, and visiting rummage sales. Charles was a U.S. Air Force veteran.He is survived by his step-daughters: Karla Carlson of Olney, IL, Kara (Jeff) Krupinski of Malden, MO;step-grandchildren: Cassandra Carlson, Brandon Carlson, Andrew Carlson, Zachary Krupinski, Katherine Krupinski, Paige Krupinski; step great-granddaughter: Triniti; brother: Jim Mardis; sister: Mary Roberts, both of Decatur.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth, two brothers and one sister.
