Charles Ernst

Charles L. "Charlie" Ernst, 84, of Forsyth, IL, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, at Edgewood Cemetery, Edgewood, Illinois. Charlie was born March 14, 1930, in Edgewood, IL, the son of Lawrence Edward and Nora Victoria (Williams) Ernst. He married Kathryn Ann Galentine on August 31, 1952, in Mason, IL. Charlie was a member of Sunnyside Road Church of Christ in Decatur, IL. He was a lifetime member of the Edgewood American Legion and Knife Collectors Association, and also a member of the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited. Charlie was a U.S. Marines veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a teacher for the Dietrich Community School District where he taught middle school and was a boys basketball coach. He retired from Firestone in January 1990 after 30 years of service. Surviving are his wife Kathryn of Forsyth, IL; children: Bradlee Ernst, Lyndell (Kim) Ernst, of Decatur, IL, and Jill (Sam) Bryant-Bova of Galveston, TX. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Kristy Wilham of Decatur, IL, Jacque (Jack) Walker of Decatur, IL, Amy (Andy) Day of Blue Mound, IL, Doug Ernst of Springfield, IL, Britney (Joe) McGowen of Pearland, TX, and Jonathan Ernst (companion Shelby) of Decatur, IL; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and brother Adrian Ernst. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fair Havens Christian Home for the tender loving care given to Charlie. "
