Charles F. Emert, 72, of Shelbyville, formerly of Moweaqua, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Memorial service will be 12:00 PM, Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. A memorial visitation will be 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
Charles was born August 14, 1950, in Decatur the son of Frederick and Elizabeth (Hays) Emert. He married Guylene Allison on September 11, 1970. Charles worked for many years at ADM. He was also an entrepreneur and not afraid to start and invest in businesses – he owned and operated an auto parts and repair business, a salvage yard, a car dealership, and a restaurant. Charles also enjoyed time spent with his friends and family, especially when they were camping, fishing and boating. Later in life, he and his wife enjoyed going antiquing and then restoring and selling at their antique booth in Sullivan. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandkids.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Guylene Emert; daughters: Kimberly Emert (Troy Allen) of Niantic and Brandi Linville of Windsor; grandchildren: Mason (Marissa) Novak and Samantha Emert; great-grandchildren: Zoe, Eli, and Asher Emert and Cecylia Novak; and siblings: Thomas (Wanda) Emert of Decatur, Kathy Dickinson of Decatur, and Madeline (Herb) Pugsley of Decatur.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Zackery Emert; and brother, Douglas Emert.
