Charles E. Durflinger, 73, of Niantic, IL, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family at 1:05 a.m., Monday, October 7, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery, Niantic, IL. Memorials may be made to Siteman Cancer Center, c/o Barnes Jewish Hospital, 4921 Parkview Place, St. Louis, MO 63110. Charles was born May 25, 1940, in Decatur, IL, the son of Harold and Mildred (Allen) Durflinger. Mr. Durflinger was an avid farmer in the Niantic area, first with his father, then continuing on the family farm after his father's retirement, working over 35 years in the Niantic area. Following his retirement from farming, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a licensed private pilot and was a member of the Decatur Aero Club. Whether it was farming, flying golfing, boating or just spending time with family and friends, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be missed by his children: Tonya (Mark) Rueff of Decatur, IL, and Shane (Lisa) Durflinger of Warsaw, MO; sister Jane Blakeslee of Soldotna, AK; 5 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters: Lois Durflinger and Catherine Bering. "
