Charles then joined the family-farming operation, but was drafted as a Private in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Charles was seriously wounded in 1951 and awarded a Purple Heart. Remembering the many blood transfusions he received in Korea, he became a faithful blood donor upon his return to the United States. After his discharge , Charles returned home, re-joined the family farming operation, and married the love of his life, Kathryn J. Disbrow (Damery) on March 14, 1953 in Blue Mound, IL. Charles and Kathryn made their home on the Disbrow farm east of Warrensburg and spent the next 62 years there together until Kathryn’s passing last April. They raised their five children there and were extremely proud that each of those children graduated college.Charles was a fourth-generation farmer in Macon County and took great pride in his profession, and was active in many farm organizations.. He also had a deep and abiding faith in God and was a very active member of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church and The Gideons International. Charles was an avid reader and an engaging conversationalist who enjoyed discussing current events, economics and theology. He always looked forward to his annual fishing trip in Canada with family and friends. He also enjoyed puzzles and the art of magic, and he was the champion of the Family Braggin’ Rights March Madness Tournament this year. He will be remembered especially for his wry sense of humor and quick wit. Charles always brightened everyone’s day! His love for his wife and his family was an example to all.Charles is survived by 5 children; Karen Disbrow of Iowa City, IA; Nancy (Gary) Swits of Gays, IL; Kevin Disbrow and Dean Disbrow both of Warrensburg, IL and Lisa Disbrow of Springfield, IL. Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn, his three older brothers, William B. Disbrow, Robert A. Disbrow, and Lewis Benning Disbrow, as well as his parents Edgar Benning and Axie Disbrow. His surviving family will miss him terribly, but celebrates his life and takes comfort in knowing he has rejoined Kathryn and his family in Heaven. "
