Celebration of Charles's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Community of Christ Church, 5655 Union School Road, Harristown, Illinois. Pastor Richard Streibich will be officiating. Entombment will be at Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Community of Christ Church. Charles was born on July 20, 1919 in Newton, Illinois the son of Charles and Julia Dennis. He married Velma Mae Lucas July 24, 1938. Velma preceded him in death on July 22, 2001. Charles surviving family include four children; Sandra Burns (Charles) Bloomington, Illinois, William Dennis (Jeraldine) Lincoln, Illinois; Charla King (Michael) Knoxville, TN; Charise Sons (Gerald) Puryear, TN. Also, surviving are eleven grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Ray Dennis (Shirley) of Pana, Illinois. Charles (Charlie) worked at Illinois Power Company in Decatur and retired after 30 years of service. He was a Marine during WorldWar II. He and his wife enjoyed throughout their retirement traveling in their Avion trailer. They were in every state except four in their years of travel. Of all their travels, Douglas, Wyoming was their favorite location. They spent their 60th wedding anniversary in Douglas at a small church renewing their wedding vows. . Charles was a master craftsman with his specialty being wicker chairs. He and his wife crafted many beautiful items that were given as gifts to children and grandchildren. Charles spent many hours as a volunteer at St.Claras nursing home in Lincoln, IL and also at Friendship Hill Retirement Center in Lovington, IL. He was always a smiling face to all the residents as he volunteered. Known to all his family as PaPa and to his friends as Charlie, he was so looking forward to uniting with his wife in heaven. He was a loving devoted husband, father, and friend and will be missed by all. "
