Charles R. “Chuck” Burkhart, Sr., 93, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM -12:00 PM, Friday, April 3, 2026 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Masonic Rites will be 12:00 PM, Friday at the funeral home by Stephen Decatur Lodge #979. Funeral service will follow the Masonic Rites. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery.
Chuck was born November 6, 1932 in Wakenda, MO, the son of Ora Stephen and Mary Ellen (Cushman) Burkhart. He married Marilyn Rose Floyd on January 10, 1953 and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2020. Chuck worked as a crane operator for Norfolk and Southern Railroad for 47 years until his retirement. He enjoyed model railroading and yard sales. Chuck loved traveling with Marilyn but he most enjoyed time spent with his kids and grandkids. Chuck was a member of Stephen Decatur Lodge #979 A.F. & A.M.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl Gebhart of Chesterfield, VA, Mary Jean Morrow (Keith) of Decatur, Charles Burkhart, Jr. (Pam) of Decatur, and Tammy Sue Smith (Curtis) of Argenta; grandchildren, Jette Star, Summer Rose, Amber Rose, Brittany Lynn, Nicole Christine, Thomas Morgan, Lucas, Valerie, Curtis, Jr., Darren, and Arielle; 14 great grandchildren and a sister, Belva Easter-Tarrent (Bruce) of Ava, MO.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Wayne Burkhart; brother, John Eldon Burkhart; and sister, Doris Janelle Kraft.
