Carol Bardelmeier Ferry, 88, died peacefully on January 11, 2025 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Carol was born on August 12, 1937 to Ruby M. (Allen) and Oscar W. Bardelmeier in Edwardsville, Il. She attended Millikin University where she earned a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She worked in Decatur Public Schools for many years. In retirement, Carol devoted her time to volunteering.
Carol married Dr. Richard E. Ferry on June 9, 1962 at First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville. Thery were married for 54 years until Richard’s passing in 2016. For the past ten years she has been living in suburban Chicago to be closer to family.
Carol leaves behind her son John Richard Ferry and wife Amy of Prairie Village, KS and daughter Sally Zamkin and husband Patrick of Flossmoor, Il. She is survived by four grandchildren: Lilia Carol and Benjamin Patrick Zamkin of Flossmoor and Katherine Jane and Paige Emerson Ferry of Prairie Village.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Decatur at a later date. It was her wish that her body becomes an anatomical gift for schools of medicine associated with the University of Illinois.
