Carol J. Chladny, 86, of Decatur, passed away December 17, 2025, surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with a visitation one hour prior from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, in Pana. Memorials may be made to Cancer Care Specialist in Decatur, or the family has asked that a tree be planted in Carol’s memory.
Carol was born on July 30,1939, the daughter of Arthur and Vera (Butler) Ruffini. She married Joseph Chladny on September 22, 1957, in Staunton at St. Michaels Catholic Church.
Carol graduated from Taylorville High School and later at the age of 39 graduated from Richland Community College, with her associate’s degree in computers. She worked for many years at the Decatur-Macon County Opportunities Corporation.
She enjoyed reading, working with computers, walking, flower and vegetable gardening and watching hummingbirds. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters- Julie (Randy) German of Lovington, IL and Christine (Jay) Schlosser of Wheaton, IL; five grandchildren- Andrea (Brian Corbett) German, Amy (Ryan) Jozwiak, Josephine, Thomas and Wyatt Schlosser; and two great-grandchildren- Emma and Sophie Jozwiak.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
