Carl Leonard Carr, age 96, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at McKinley Court. Liturgy Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Illiopolis, IL, with military rites. Memorials may be made to Niantic Fire Department. Carl was born October 9, 1922 in Mt. Auburn, IL, the son of Charles A. and Mary Pearl (Brannock) Carr. He married Betty Ervin on July 1, 1950 in St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Niantic, IL. She preceded him in death on July 29, 2015. Carl was a former member of Resurrection Parish in Illiopolis, IL and is currently a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He worked as a machine repairman for Caterpillar Tractor, Inc., and retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. Carl was involved in the Niantic Fire Protection District at age 16 and continued serving for 69 years, and during that time he served as Assistant Chief and Trustee for many years. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, serving 2 ½ years in the Third Army. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Carl also enjoyed gardening. Carl was a loving father and always put his family first. He is survived by his children Carlene Newbanks of Oreana, IL and Daniel Carr of Niantic, IL; grandchildren Brandon Newbanks and wife Jill of Oreana, Katie Carr DVM, of Fulton, MO, Michael Carr of Niantic, Betsy Carr of Ft. Collins, CO; great grandchildren Cali, Cami, and Cassi; and brother Charles E. Carr of Pekin, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, sisters Doris Brackett and Lucille Guy.
