Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 4 to 7 P.M., Friday, January 23, at Northwest Christian Church, 1306 N. Stanley, Decatur, IL. Graveside services will be 12:30 P.M. at Ramsey Cemetery, Ramsey, IL, with military rites conducted by the Ramsey American Legion.Memorials may be made to Northwest Christian Church.Butch was born October 5, 1956, in Newark, New Jersey, the son of Carl John, Jr. and Polly (Carlock) Carpenter. He married Cheryl A. Koehler on June 1, 1979, in Ramsey, IL.Butch was a member of Northwest Christian Church. In 1981 he joined the Decatur Police Department, rising to the rank of Detective, working in the Street Crimes Narcotics Unit, and was formerly with the Taylorville Police Department. Butch was a member of the Illinois Drug Officers Association, Police Benevolent #39, Illinois State Police Task Force X and was a U.S. Navy Veteran.He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Decatur, IL; mother and father, Polly and Carl of Nokomis, IL; daughter Katherine Katie Carpenter and fianc Jared Bohland of Nashville, TN; son Daniel John Carpenter of New York City, NY; brother Tim Carpenter (Kris) of Hillsboro, IL; several nephews.The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr.Guaglianone, the nurses and staff of Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois, the nurses on the 5th floor of Decatur Memorial Hospital, as well as Northwest Christian Church family and the Decatur Police Department.
