Byron Lewis Derr, 86, of Decatur, IL, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019, with family by his side, at Lincolnshire Place, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019, at The Brethren Church of Cerro Gordo, Cerro Gordo, IL, with visitation Wednesday, June 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Come Together, Be Empowered. Byron was born August 16, 1932 in Decatur, IL, the son of Archie Walter and Ora Orleen (Scott) Derr. He married Berniece Hays on November 24, 1976 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2013. Byron was a member of The Brethren Church of Cerro Gordo. He was a life long farmer and owned Plainview Trucking in Cerro Gordo for 35 years, and previously worked for Spector Redball Trucking. Byron enjoyed woodworking and loved to travel. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Cerro Gordo American Legion. He is survived by his daughter Robin Trelz of Decatur; stepson Roger Allen of Decatur; stepdaughters Brenda Burwell of Decatur and Cheryl (Terry) Wiseley of Verdigris, OK; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Berniece, and son Rodney.
