Brett M. Barnes, 45, of Decatur, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017.Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 9, at the funeral home. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Moweaqua, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made c/o Busey Bank for Brett Barnes Memorial Fund for his children’s education.Brett was born November 13, 1971, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Standish Dwayne and Donna Kay (Saddoris) Barnes. He married Susan Wills on November 30, 1996 in Moweaqua.Brett was a standout athlete at Moweaqua High School and a student athlete at SIUE and Millikin University. He was a teacher for 22 years in Decatur Public Schools and coached basketball for 22 years at Durfee, South Shores and Muffley Schools. Brett thoroughly enjoyed watching his students succeed and encouraged them to think outside the box. He enjoyed working with his tractor, hunting, golfing, and loved sports. Brett loved attending his kids activities. He was a member of the Illinois Education Association, Decatur Education Association, NRA, and was affiliated with Passion Community Church in Mt. Zion, IL.He is survived by his wife Susan; children Braxton, Bracie, Briar; brothers Bryan (Pam) Barnes of Macon, Brandon (Lori) Barnes of Moweaqua; mother Donna Barnes and maternal grandmother Rita Walker, both of Moweaqua; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.
