Bonnie Marie Giles, 103, of Decatur, IL, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Fair Havens Christian Home. Private family graveside services will be held at North Fork Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to donor’s choice. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Bonnie was born April 10, 1915, in Woodyard, Fayette County, IL, daughter of Joseph and Nancy (Gelsinger) Nichols. In 1926 her entire family moved from Vandalia to Decatur, IL where she enjoyed attending city schools. She was employed as an elevator operator in the Citizens Building and attended Browns Business College. Later Bonnie worked in retail sales and as a floor walker for local merchants. At Decatur Wallpaper, she enjoyed working her way up to Floor Supervisor. On August 15, 1942, she married Naval Chief Vern N. Giles and joined him in Baltimore, MD. In 1945 they moved back to their hometown of Decatur. They purchased a home in the Pleasant Grove community to remain and raise a family. Bonnie enjoyed living by Lake Decatur in a wooded countryside home having many flowers, birds, and her daily newspaper with a cup of coffee. When called upon, Bonnie always enjoyed being available to help her siblings, always keeping busy and making sacrifices to generously provide for her immediate family while staying supportive of their interest. Respected for her honesty, truthfulness, and for all, she believed in equal treatment with fair play. She had a very long loving life with many struggles and adversities. She would thank all who assisted with their helping caring ways. Bonnie leaves behind one daughter, Darleen (Andrews) M. Frantz, sons, Gary Giles and Terry Giles, five granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren, seven nieces, and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, three brothers, great-grandson Dalton, several nieces, nephews and all her lifelong dear friends. The family would like to thank Fair Havens Christian Home primary nurses and aides for their care for Bonnie during her failing memory but enduring physical health. "
