Bonnie Lou (Elliott) Engel went to be with her Lord & Savior on Feb. 7
th
as a result of dementia.
Bonnie was born in Decatur, IL on February 10, 1942 and adopted by parents Samuel & Madge (Reid) Elliott. She graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in 1960 and married Gehrig R. Engel at Grace Lutheran Church, Strasburg in 1960. They had three daughters, Sarah, Missy, and Kathleen. She retired from Mt. Zion School District in 2002.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters Sarah & Joe Marsaglia (Taylorville, IL), Missy & David Hester (Sandwich, IL), & Kathleen Engel (Oakland, TN), grandsons 2nd Lt. Joshua & Taylor Hester (Colorado Springs, CO) and Caleb Hester (Sandwich, IL). Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews, in-laws and dear friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gehrig (2020).
A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2155 N. Oakland Ave., Decatur, IL 62526 on Saturday, Feb. 10th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9th at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, and an hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Camp CILCA (4124 Camp CILCA Road, Cantrall, IL 62625), or Discovery Ministries (17043 SE State Rte E, Eminence, MO 65466).
The family would like to thank Beth, Diana, the staff at Carriage Crossing Taylorville, and Hands
of God Hospice for their care and compassion.
