Robert W. “Bob” Taylor, 86, of Decatur, passed away December 20, 2024.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, is assisting the family.
Bob was born November 28, 1938 in Fountain Run, KY, the son of Toby Taylor and Olene (Brandon) Good. He married Patricia Thomas on August 25, 1963 in La Place. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2021.
Bob attended school in Cerro Gordo, graduating in the class of 1958, where he was a standout basketball player, earning a place in the Hall of Fame and holding long-time records at Cerro Gordo, including the scoring record. Bob continued his education and played basketball at Eastern Illinois University before serving in the military. He then proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his service, Bob worked as a machinist for AE Staley, retiring after 34 years. He played poker professionally and traveled around the country playing in poker tournaments. Bob took pride in all he owned – from his Lincoln Continental cars to his Honda Gold Wing and later Harley-Davidson motorcycles, he was known to keep everything in immaculate condition. He also enjoyed traveling around the country on his motorcycles.
Surviving are his daughter, Tamara Dunning of Decatur; grandsons: Blake (Sarah) West of Maroa and Patrick Charles of Camp LeJune, NC; great-grandchildren: Adelyn and Parker; and sister, Sharon Moran.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat Taylor; and sister, Marilyn Walker.
