Beulah "Babe" M. Reich, 103, of Decatur, IL passed away June 17, 2016 in Lincolnshire Place.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 22 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.Memorials may be given to Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is handling the arrangements. Beulah was born June 12, 1913 in Atwood, IL, the daughter of John and Bertha (Stout) McConnell. She married Walter Reich on June 10, 1934 in Decatur, IL and he preceded her in death. When Beulah was born, her father said, “She is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen!” The same would be true for her as a person throughout her life. She was the “baby” of the family, and so the name “Babe” stuck. As a little girl she learned how to quilt and continued to do so into her 90s. She moved to Decatur, Illinois when she was a teenager and worked at Gebhardt & Gushard’s Department Store. Before she married the love of her life, “Wally,” she became a devoted Lutheran Christian and remained so to the day the Lord Jesus called her home to heaven. Wally was a Master Certified watch maker, and the two of them, on a whim, successfully opened Reich Bros., Jewelry in Decatur with Wally’s brother Fred and wife Millie. Babe and Wally traveled extensively in the world and every state in the U.S. She was especially fond of Australia and often recalled the interesting details of her trip to China and many other places too numerous to mention. She loved to Square Dance and was extremely good at it. Babe loved visiting with her friends and family, playing cards, golfing, and reading. She was a blessing to those around her and will be missed.Beulah is survived by her sister Vera Altevogt, niece Helen Sanderson, and nephew Don (Marilyn) Gauwitz; great-nephews Steve (Cheryl) Sanderson and Nicolas Gauwitz; great-nieces Sue (David) Snyder and Shawn Tracy; great-great nephews Matt (Kristen) Snyder and Luke Sanderson and great-great niece Tami Snyder. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, three sisters and three brothers.Special thanks to the loving and devoted staff of Lincolnshire Place in Decatur for taking excellent care of her in the last seven months of her life.
