Bettye Smith

Bettye I. Smith, 88, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 9:01 A.M. Thursday (03-14-2013) at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday (03-19-2013) at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home Decatur, IL, with visitation from noon until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to: The Humane Society. Bettye was born on March 25, 1924 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Jack Beaver and Freida (Hill) Beaver. She married Jack L. Smith on June 3, 1947 in Decatur, IL. Bettye was an active member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church Decatur, IL. She formerly was a florist at Betty and Bob's Flower Shop and McManus Florist. Bettye enjoyed gardening and was a Certified Master Gardner. She was a volunteer with the U of I Extension Service Master Gardner Program and was a judge for annual gardening competitions. Bettye was also a genealogist and a member of the Genealogical Society. She was always caring for others by cooking and delivering meals, driving people to church and doctor appointments, and taking care of other's pets. She loved spoiling her granddaughter, Rachel. She is survived by her husband of almost sixty six years of marriage Jack L. Smith of Decatur, IL; one son Jack B. Smith and wife Gwen of Springfield, IL; and one granddaughter Rachel Ann Smith of Springfield, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, and cousin Martha "Jan" Whitfield. "
