Betty J. Smull, 101, of Niantic, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be 12:00 PM, Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Niantic United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Saturday at the church. Memorials in Betty’s honor may be made to: Niantic United Methodist Church, 211 North St, Niantic, IL 62551.
Betty was born April 23, 1923 in Eureka, IL, the daughter of Robert and Bertha Howell. She married Earl Smull on March 7, 1964, He preceded her in death on May 16, 2004. Betty was an accountant for many years, but owned Smull and Long where she worked until her retirement at age 79. She loved to crochet and crocheted many blankets and afghans for infants. When she was younger, Betty was very active with Girl Scouts and was the first director of Camp Virginia Anderson Girl Scout Camp in Decatur. She was a member of Niantic United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Virginia McKinney of Niantic; son, Jay (Angie) Smull of Texas; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and even a great-great-great grandchild – 111 in total.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; daughter, Suzi Lopez; two brothers, Robert and Richard; and a sister, Eleanor.
