Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Oakley Brick Church of the Brethren, Oakley, IL, with visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M., prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Memorials may be made to Oakley Brick Church of the Brethren.Betty was born August 16, 1927, in Latham, IL, the daughter of Theodore B. and Gladys (Fields) Phillips. She married Ralph Smith on October 4, 1946 in Latham, IL.Betty was a member of Oakley Brick Church of the Brethren. She was a Draftsman in Engineering at Caterpillar, retiring in 1983 after 28 years of service. Betty loved quilting, doing genealogy research, camping, waterskiing, was an avid Nascar fan, especially enjoyed watching Tony Stewart and feeding the Blue Jays popcorn. She was a member of the Ski Klub of Illinois.She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ralph of Oakley, IL; sons Charles Philip Smith and wife Linda L. of Hartselle, AL; Ronald D. Smith of Oakley, IL; grandchildren Nicole C. Smith and partner Bruce Smith of Decatur, AL, Timothy C. Smith and wife Faith Kilgore-Smith of Athens, AL; great granddaughter Kelsey Bricker of Decatur, IL; and 30 nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers. "
