<p> </p><p>Betty Roxana Monroe, 96, of Urbandale, IA, formerly of Decatur, died peacefully on February 17, 2018. She was born August 23, 1921, in Elwin, Illinois, the daughter of Scott and Laura Warnick. The eldest of five siblings, Betty was raised in a family of great love. She was an amazing student who prided herself in her studies. After graduation from Stephen Decatur High School in 1939, she spent a brief time in Bloomington, Illinois, where she was the featured voice on a radio show called, "Women in the News."</p><p>Her most important career opportunity came when she accepted a job at the Macon County Clerk's office in Decatur. She loved her job and it was there that she met and fell in love with a young lawyer named Bob. When he entered the office one day to file some legal paperwork, her life would be changed forever. On June 20, 1953, they were married in a small ceremony. Eventually, they would complete their family with four children and Betty focused her life on raising them and participating in their activities.</p><p>As her children grew older, she became active in volunteer work, including the Bloodmobile of Decatur and Meals On Wheels. Her hobbies included Bridge, tap dancing, knitting, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. She was an active volunteer at First Presbyterian Church of Decatur and a loyal member of PEO Sisterhood (Chapter GR).</p><p>Betty moved to Des Moines in November, 2012, and began residing at Senior Suites of Urbandale in 2013. Her family would like to thank their staff and Suncrest Hospice for the loving care they provided. Betty is survived by her son, Greg Monroe (Julie); daughters, Ronda Weigel (Perry) and Karen Teel (Harry); five grandchildren, J.D. Campbell (Pam), Sarah Reese (Michael), Jill Monroe, Zack Teel (Mandi), and Amanda Teel; six great grandchildren, Samantha, Nicole, Kate, Easton, Talan, and Nashlynn. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and son, David.</p><p>A private graveside service will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur on Thursday, February 22 at 10:00 am.</p><p> </p>
