Betty J. Barber, 85, of Monticello, IL, passed away 10:22 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Kirby Medical Center in Monticello, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 15, at Brintlinger and Earl Cerro Gordo Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, IL, with visitation one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. Memorials may be made to Maple Point Supportive Living Resident Fund, 1000 N. Union Dr., Monticello, IL 61856 or Alzheimers Association Greater IL Chapter, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631-3473. Betty was born May 1, 1928 in Sparland, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Mildred (Lyons) Russell. She married Andrew E. Barber on December 24, 1945 in Lacon, IL. Betty was a homemaker and loved camping, boating, gardening, and all crafts. She was an avid traveler with her husband, motor homing all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Betty is a member of the SKI KLUB of IL, Family Motor Coach Association, and Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church. She was a devoted volunteer for the developmentally disabled and was instrumental in the formation of Macon County Association for the Developmentally Disabled (MCADD). She also served on the Piatt County Mental Health board. She is survived by her son Dr. Andrew E. (Mary) Barber, Jr. of Dothan, AL; daughter Benita L. (Mark) Baker of Monticello, IL; grandchildren Sandra (Robert) Hughes of Frederick, MD, Michelle (David) Carswell of Jefferson, MD, Andrew Barber III of Ardmore, AL, Melissa Baker (Tom Nichols) of Monticello, Brett (Kaley) Baker of Monticello, Bart (Christina) Baker of Monticello; great grandchildren Jeremy & Robert Hughes, Jenna & Mary Carswell, Kasen & Penelope Baker; sisters Lillian McCasky, Martha Wenz, Gwendolyn Kingen, Jacquelyn Martin, Barbara Kepper; special sister-in-law Louise (Carl) Shafer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Jeffrey Alan and Barry Alan Barber, brothers Edwin and William Russell. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Kirby Hospital and Presence Hospice. They want to extend the utmost gratitude to the entire staff of Maple Point Supportive Living in Monticello, IL for the amazing care and love they extended Betty over the past 4 ½ years. "
