Bette (Reid) Short, 84, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation two hours prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial and graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 17, at Rockport Cemetery in Malvern, Arkansas. Memorials may be made to Scovill Zoo.Bette was born August 16, 1932 in Maracaibo, Venezuela, the daughter of Horace Redmond and Buena Ophelia (Bland) Reid. She married Russell Dean Short in March 1968 in Houston, TX. He preceded her in death in July 2004.Bette worked for ADM as a clerk and was a volunteer at Scovill Zoo for several years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, watching tv and movies and listening to music.She is survived by her daughter Victoria Short and husband Scott Bogue of Decatur; stepson Lee Short of Haslet, TX; stepdaughters Linda Wallace and husband Paul of Sulphur Springs, TX, Louise Skinner and husband Larry of Cooper, TX; stepson Alan Dean Short and wife Shirrel of Cody, Wyoming; grandson Christopher McBryde of Atlanta, GA; stepgrandchildren Donna Walker and Sherrie Helton, both of Cooper, TX, Leland Short of the Cayman Islands, Bryan Short of Alabama, Julie Bell of Denton, TX, Lena and Marisa Short of Haslet, TX.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Horace Redmond Reid, Jr, and grandchild Catherine Gail Skinner.
