Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Niantic Christian Church, Niantic, IL. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Memorials may be made to Niantic Christian Church.Joan was born August 29, 1929, in Niantic, IL, the daughter of Earl and Bessie (Beck) Patterson. She married Bernard W. Johnson on June 2, 1951 in Niantic, IL. Joan was a member of Niantic Christian Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company prior to raising her family. Later she worked as a secretary at J.J. Swartz for 13 years and most recently at Federal Kemper Insurance for 10 years before retiring. She was a member of the Marine Corp Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors and was a Girl Scout Leader.She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bernard of Decatur; daughters Vicki Donaldson and husband Randy of Moweaqua, IL, Debbi Lewis and husband Michael of Oreana, IL; grandchildren Shannon Lewis and wife Amy, Wesley Pfeifer and wife Tasha, Beth Pfeifer and fianc Greg Roberts, Jennifer Lewis and fianc Ty Dillman, Justin Lewis and fiance Samantha Bryson, Hilary Darsham; great grandchildren Mariam, Mason, Ethan, Trinity, Christian, Jenna, A.J., Naomi, Dakota, and Luke; brother Robert Patterson and wife Marilyn of Decatur, IL.She was preceded in death by her parents, 9 brothers and sisters.The family would like to thank Decatur Memorial Hospital ER and Cardiac Care Unit Staff for their special care and compassion.Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
