Bertie Slade

Bertie E. Slade, 83, of La Place, IL, died 7:55 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 in the Arthur Home from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, at Brintlinger and Earl Cerro Gordo Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, at Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Cerro Gordo High School Athletic Department. Bertie was born February 25, 1932, in Bernie, West Virginia to Leonard and Opal (Stowers) Adkins. She was educated in the West Virginia schools. She married Berrie Slade, Jr. on September 13, 1948 in Greenup, KY. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1995. Bertie was a member of the La Place Church of the Brethren. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking, baking, and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include on son: Berrie R. (Beth) Slade of Hammond, IL; two daughters: Ruth Ann (Larry) Hale of Mt. Juliet, TN, Joyce E. Hiser of La Place, IL; three grandchildren: Robert Hiser, Leslie (Brian) Wright, Jerrime Hiser; six great-grandchildren: Haley Wright, Aubrey Wright, Braden Wright, Sierra Hiser, Remington Hiser, Dalton Hiser; three brothers: Bernard (Emma) Adkins, Roger (Connie) Adkins, and Gary (Connie) Adkins, all of Clinton, IA. Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Berrie, Jr., three sisters: Ludena Peters, Omie Stowers and Arnie Tegeler, one brother in infancy, and son-in-law: L. Michael Hiser. "
