Bernard Johnson

Bernard "Bernie" Wayne Johnson, 89, of Decatur, died Monday, May 11, 2015, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Niantic Christian Church. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, May 12, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard, in which he had served for the last 20 years. Memorials may be made to Niantic Christian Church. Bernie was born April 2, 1926, in rural Kenney, IL, the son of Albert Dean and Dora (Perrine) Johnson. He served in the 1st Marine Division during WWII. He married Joan "Josie" Patterson June 2, 1951, in Niantic. She preceded him in death April 28, 2009. Bernie worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 40 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Niantic Christian Church, American Legion, and VFW in Decatur. He is survived by his daughters: Vicki Donaldson and husband Randy of Decatur and Debbi Lewis and husband Michael of Oreana; grandchildren: Shannon Lewis and wife Amy, Wesley Pfeifer and fiancee` Tonia, Beth Roberts and husband Greg, Jennifer Dillman and husband Ty, Justin Lewis and wife Samantha, and Hilary Crawford and husband Matt; great grandchildren: Miriam, Mason, Ethan, Trinity, Christian, Jenna, A.J., Naomi, Dakota, Luke, Garrett, Carter, Josi, Sierra, Jazmin, and Kinsley. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Josie, three brothers and three sisters. "
