Bernadette "Bernie" Lipe, 90 of Decatur, Illinois passed away quietly on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Symphony of Decatur. Bernie was born April 3, 1925 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin the daughter of the late Henry J. and Ida (Marcouiller) DuCharme. She married Lester P. Lipe on June 26, 1948 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois. Bernie was a 1943 graduate of Graveraet High School in Marquette, Michigan and a 1946 graduate of St. John's School of Nursing in Chicago. She was a Registered Nurse in the Obstetrical Department at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur for many years. In their later years Bernie and Les were fortunate to spend winters in Seminole, Florida. Bernie was an avid reader. She and Les volunteered at Bay Pines VA Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida for many years as well as Majestic Park where they resided in Seminole. Bernie was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she had been an active volunteer. Bernie is survived by a son Stephen (Heidi) Lipe of Pensacola, Florida; daughter Lynnette (Paul) Schiffhauer of Hamburg, New York; son Vincent (Steven) Lipe of Seattle, Washington; and daughter Therese Lipe of Decatur, Illinois. Granddaughter Chantal (Jeff) Curtiss of Tinley Park, Illinois; grandson J.D. Lipe of New Orleans, Louisiana; and granddaughter Audrey Schiffhauer of Chicago, Illinois. Great-granddaughters Alexis Curtiss and Payton Curtiss both of Tinley Park, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, daughter Christine A. Lipe, brothers Norbert and William "Bill" DuCharme. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be private and conducted at a later date. Interment will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois. The Lipe family would like to extend their most sincere and heartfelt thanks to Darlene DuCharme and Symphony of Decatur for all they did for Bernie. "
