Barry Matas

Barry Matas, 69, of Tulsa, OK, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018.Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Spring Hill Cemetery, St. Elmo, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital.Barry was born October 27, 1948, in Berwyn, IL, the son of William and Evodea (Barthell) Matas. He graduated from SIU Carbondale with a Bachelors Degree and worked as a Geologist for Century Geophysical from 1976 until his retirement in December 2015. Barry was an avid Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Blackhawks fan. He was a MP in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam.He is survived by his two brothers William (Joan) Matas of Silver City, NM, Greg (Tena) Matas of Oreana, IL; nieces and nephews Kim Matas of Tucson, AZ, Scott Matas of Copperas Cove, TX, Stacey (Tito) Arista of Santa Cruz, CA, Eric Matas, Randy (Amy) Matas of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan (Vickie) Matas of Decatur, Kyle (Sarah) Matas of Warrensburg; several great nieces and great nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bruce Matas.
