Arthur C. Colver, 77, of Decatur, IL, died 4:40 P.M., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 6, 2009, at Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to DMH Hospice. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, will be handling the arrangements.Arthur was born July 18, 1931, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Harold A. and Bessie M. (Hunt) Colver. He married Jo Morris on June 14, 1975 in Decatur, IL. Arthur received a B.A. degree from Knox College in Galesburg, IL, Masters degree from Western Illinois State University in Macomb, IL, Specialist Degree in School Administration from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and an Ed.D. degree from Illinois State University in Normal, IL. He began his education career as a Social Studies teacher at Niles West High School, and later became Assistant Principal and finally Principal of Niles East High School, Skokie, IL. In 1974 he became Principal of John F. Kennedy High School in the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District, Long Island, NY and was later Assistant Superintendent, and then retired in 1992 as Superintendent of Schools.Arthur was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his annual trips to Indian Lake, NY, with his family. He was also a diehard Cubs Fan.He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jo of Decatur, IL; daughter Suzanne (Steve) Myers of Silt, CO; son Russell (Joan) Colver of Palm Desert, CA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brother Jim (Linda) Colver of Beardstown, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents.The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Elliott, Dr. Velasco, DMH Hospice, Diana Forden, and close neighbors and friends for all their care and kindness during Arts illness over the last several months.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
